All That Glitters is Gold

"When all is one and one is all, that's what it is; To be a rock and not to roll, oh yeah; And she's buying a stairway to heaven"

Off Camera with Sam Jones, has been described as 'the anti late night celebrity interview' that is a website, magazine, television show and podcast that focuses on long form conversations with actors, writers, musicians (or just anyone who 'piques his interest'). I've been listening to more of his interviews while having breakfast, and I stumbled across this great interview with Ethan Hawke.

In the frank and honest talk, Sam and Ethan discuss (with a "we live in a society" nod) about getting older and how he thought "being an adult would be easier than it is". Something that I think about a lot as I creep towards celebrating my 50th in a few weeks is that life is hard. I've been through things I never thought I would have, but have had many adventures along the way.

Why be sad if something bad happens, learn to not to fear the struggle, as you grow from it.

A few of the seasons are available to watch on Netflix, as well as the episode with Ethan Hawke

Forward Thinking

Digging back through the archives, I came across one of my favorite videos of Steve Jobs handling tough questions during a 1997 developers conference.

I like to think of this one as one of the best examples of how to respond to someone insulting you. He pauses. He thinks. And then responds in a way that is not only reflective, but magical. A worthy re-watch.

Latest obsession

Overnight Oats have become one of my pandemic MVPs.

Its a no-cook method to making oatmeal, which you can prepare the night before, in which you "soak" raw oats with milk (or in my case, almond milk). They have a ton of healthy benefits (lots of protein, great source of fiber and high in antioxidants). While you can find thousands of recipes online, this simple mix has been great:

  • 1/2 cup oats

  • 1 tbsp chia

  • 1 tbsp cocoa (if you want a chocolatey flavor)

  • blob of nut butter

  • 2/3 almond milk or coconut almond milk

  • 1 tbsp or less maple syrup

  • splash of vanilla

  • 1/4 - 1/2 mashed banana

  • mix it up
